The Exifosis MDA Manifesto

Exifosis MDA — Metadata • Decoded • Access — is not just a cleaner. It is a statement that your photos should not carry invisible baggage. Every modern camera silently embeds everything from your exact GPS location to your device's serial number into image files. Exifosis MDA removes that baggage with surgical precision, without ever touching the actual picture.

Local-First Architecture

The Android APK mirrors the browser-based web app: it reads your file into memory, parses the binary container, identifies metadata segments and chunks, removes them, and rebuilds a fresh output file — all inside the app's sandbox. There is no upload step, no cloud call, no backend API. You can even run the cleaner in Airplane Mode.

Zero-Knowledge Privacy

Exifosis MDA has no account system, no telemetry, no crash reporting that transmits image information. The Android app requests only the minimum storage permission needed to read and save files you select. Your behavioral data is never collected, and the app functions entirely offline after install.

What Gets Cleaned

• EXIF — Camera Make, Model, Lens, Serial Number, Software, DateTime, Exposure, ISO, Aperture, Focal Length, Artist, Copyright, User Comment, MakerNotes, embedded thumbnail.
• GPS — Latitude, Longitude, Altitude, Timestamp, Direction, Speed, Map Datum, Processing Method.
• XMP — Creator, Creator Tool, Title, Description, Keywords, Rating, Rights, Document ID, Instance ID, History, Adobe Photoshop & Lightroom namespaces, Dublin Core.
• IPTC / IIM — Headline, Caption, Byline, Credit, Source, Copyright Notice, Keywords, City, Country, Date Created, Contact Info.
• ICC Profile — detected and, where technically appropriate, removed.
• Comments & Previews — user comments, embedded thumbnails, auxiliary preview images.

Honest Limitations

Exifosis MDA removes supported metadata and embedded information detected by its parsers. Some format-specific, proprietary, encrypted, or structural data may not be removable without specialized format support. HEIC, AVIF and RAW formats are detected but only partially supported — the app will tell you this clearly rather than pretend otherwise. The app never silently corrupts an image, and the original file is never modified.

Filesystem Timestamps vs. Embedded Metadata

Your phone's file system records when a file was created or modified. That is separate from metadata embedded inside the image file. Exifosis MDA cleans embedded metadata; it does not change your file system's timestamps.
